Mimosa hostilis, also known as Mimosa tenuiflora and Tepezcohuite in Mexico where this bark is sourced from. All of our Mimosa hostilis (MHRB) comes from a sustainable farm and by buying farm grown Mimosa you avoid potentially contributing to the over-harvesting of wild trees.

Produces a rich, deep pink/purple colour in natural fabrics such as cotton and wool. Can also be used as Wood Dye when mixed with an oil such as linseed or tung.

We also carry powdered and shredded bark from Brazil. The powdered may be a better option for people without a way to break down the bark further themselves.

This root bark is finely powdered , making it easy to work with. Shredded bark is available too from a different source in Mexico which is darker and generally produces a richer dye.

Though it’s a bit more work, more experienced dye-makers typically prefer the colour profile and flexibility from bark they’ve powdered themselves. We encourage you to try both and see what works best for you.
