Mimosa hostilis is also known as Mimosa tenuiflora and Jurema Preta in Brazil where this bark is sourced from. All of our Mimosa hostilis (MHRB) comes from a sustainable farm that doesn’t employ pesticides or chemical fertilizers, making it effectively organic. In addition, by buying farm grown Mimosa you avoid potentially contributing to the over-harvesting of wild trees. We regularly test (roughly every 3-6 weeks, depending on shipment frequency) to assure a consistently high-quality product.
Produces a rich, deep pink/purple colour in natural fabrics such as cotton and wool. Can also be used as Wood Dye when mixed with an oil such as linseed or tung.
Note: this bark is shredded, coarsely powdered bark is also available. We carry shredded bark from Mexico too which is more finely shredded!

The quality of this bark is superb, the dye produced from this Brazilian variety is a deep amber colour unlike the muted Mexican type. The bark itself comes in large pieces, the wholest size chunks seen so far. For dying, this one is quite appropriate to simmer as its pigment releases from the pieces and do not transfer onto the fabric as they are whole and not fragmented. As a longtime customer it is nice to try out this different variety and experience its properties
